Auto-upgrade failed, but I actually didn’t expect it to work given past experience with .x level upgrades. The manual upgrade, however, went flawlessly and took less than 10 minutes. The auto-upgrade seems to work on .x.y level version changes, but this is the second time that it has failed at the .x level, and is likely more a function of the hosting than the WordPress software itself. From my perspective, the manual steps to upgrade are easy enough (at least for me), that it really isn’t a big deal.
The biggest thing I notice about the new version is that it seems faster, which makes sense given some of the changes they have made to the underlying blogging engine. Now back to work on that updated theme for the blog… No, really. I’m working on it. Really, I am.

We’ve been doing some explaining lately, more it seems as Li becomes (even) more verbal. Some sample topics of interest lately:
- Why it’s probably not OK to put Neosporin on Ian’s toothbrush
- Why we eat chocolate with dinner but not necessarily for dinner (at least not very often, and sometimes a subtle distinction, I will admit)
- Why needing a Band-Aid for a scraped knee is different than when the flamingo (in a book) broke her leg and needed both a cast and a wheelchair (must have been a nasty break!)

The weather here today (and, in reality, most of this week) has been pretty lousy; it’s pelting down rain and the wind is blowing right now. We’re trying to make the best of it by getting caught up on stuff that just seems to have been overtaken or lost in the scramble these past couple of months.

Li watching one of Ian's soccer matches (Spring 2009)
I was going through some pictures our friend John took during the course of the soccer season; pictures of most of our team and quite a few of Li. He got quite a few really good ones; here are a couple.
This picture of Li has to have been taken on one of the few halfway decent days on which we had matches, given what she’s wearing and given that her hair isn’t streaming out behind her from the wind. Until the final two weeks of the season, most of the matches were played in some combination of extreme wind, rain, or snow.

Ian on the ball (Spring 2009)
Given the generally lousy weather we saw all season — I can remember only two practice sessions all season that I was there in shorts without warmups — it was somewhat fitting that we closed our season out on the Sunday morning of Memorial Day weekend with an early match under grey skies and light showers at the State Cup tournament. The exception to that was a local tournament a week ahead of State Cup, where we did get to play in relatively warm weather and under sunny skies. This picture of Ian is one of the few John got where the players aren’t all wearing at least one layer under their uniforms.
I’m headed for DC for most of this next week, and as much as I like DC, I’m not looking forward to being gone.

I just realized a bit ago that for the first time I can ever remember, I have four different browsers installed on my Mac that are all in some form of pre-release state:
- Safari 4 is a public beta
- Firefox 3.5 beta 4
- Opera just released their first beta of version 10
- Google just announced that Chrome is now available as a first (pre-)alpha for the Mac (and Linux) platforms
I think the only “official” release I might have would be Camino 1.6.7, but I so rarely use it that I tend to forget I even have it installed. And even there, I could have 2.0 beta 3 installed if I chose to — maybe I will just so that I could say I have five — since they just announced a new beta…
Edit (06.09.2009): One down, as Safari 4 hits official status.
Edit (06.20.2009): Firefox 3.5 shifts to release candidate status.
Edit (06.30.2009): Two down, as Firefox 3.5 goes official.
